File Manager
New Version 6.2! Open File
Manager is a utility that enables the idrive online backup program
to capture open files - even if the files are changing. Users are able
to continue to use their software, hardware and operating system secure
in the knowledge that all important data will get backed up.
Data Restore
Wizard (CD-ROM Restore)
The administrator can now create
restorable media sets that can be written to CD-ROM's or other media storage.
The Data Restore Wizard steps the Backup Server administrator through
preparing an account's data so it can be immediately restorable by the
user from local media. The wizard will also break the media into specific
size pieces if the user's data cannot fit on a single piece of media.
The user's data is kept encrypted on the media as well, and can only be
restored if the proper secret key is known.
Quota Management
The Backup server now supports
user quotas to control the amount of data backed up by users. Three different
configurable quota thresholds are available. The administrator can take
action at each quota level, notifying the user they are near/at/over quota,
and even preventing future backups from occurring until the user reduces
their server storage. Global quota settings can be applied to all users
in combination with individual unique quota settings. Custom messages
can also be entered by the administrator that show up in logs and windows
when certain quota thresholds are met. E-mail, Event Logs, and Alerts
can also be triggered from the Backup Server when account quota thresholds
are met.
Removal of Server
files by Client
The client now has the ability to
remove specific files and directories from the server. Removing files
in this way deletes the files from the server permanently, allowing users
to manage their disk quota if required. The file removal functionality
can be controlled by the administrator and disabled if necessary.
Firewall Support
for the Client
The Client is now able to communicate
with proxys and firewalls that support the SOCKS5 protocol. This enables
the Backup Client to communicate to Backup Servers that are on the outside
of a firewall. The firewall would normally make the Backup Server unacessable
to the Backup Client because the default port of 308 would be blocked
for security purposes.
Added SMTP E-Mail
delivery to the server
Previously, the Backup Server used
MAPI to generate e-mail notifications. Getting MAPI setup properly was
difficult and had a number of restrictions. The Backup Server now uses
the industry plus SMTP to connect directly to an SMTP e-mail server
and deliver e-mail notifications. Setup is as simple as specifying an
SMTP server, a 'From' address, and any number of 'To' or 'Cc' addresses.
Select
Files for Backup using Wildcards
The Client now supports the use
of wildcards in filters so users can select files using powerful wildcard
specifications. Any number of wildcards can be specified in a filter.
Examples of wildcard specifications are the following: "a*.*" - To select
all file names starting with the letter 'a', "a*.txt" - To select all
text files starting with the letter 'a'.
Additional
New Functionality
- Export approval received for
strong encryption. All 3.50 Client installs now use strong encryption.
If you patch upgrade an International strength 3.01 Client to 3.50 it
will start using strong encryption automatically.
- The ability for administrators
to force the user to use a secret key for encryption.
- New Client Dial-Up option to
only close connection if it was originally opened by the Client.
- Test E-Mail button added to
Client E-Mail configuration page.
- Client upgrade patches delivered
with Server installer.
- Enhanced error reporting in
the Server database for backups/restores.
- Server database is copied for
reference to a subfolder during every install.
