| How
do I select what data gets backed up and when the backup occurs ?
A selection process similar to “WINDOWS EXPLORER” lets you nominate the
individual Drives, Directories and Files you wish to Backup. You can then
schedule your backup to automatically start at a variety of times, including
a nominated after hours time. |
| How
do I know if the Backup has worked ?
The idrive program produces a Backup LOG that can be viewed and printed.
This Log clearly shows how your Backup went and highlights any problems.
|
| When
can I restore my data ?
Your
data can be restored instantly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. |
| Can
I restore just one file ?
When it comes to restoring, you have total control. A selection process
similar to “WINDOWS EXPLORER” lets you select the individual Drives,
Directories and Files you wish to Restore. One file or an entire directory
can be restored at the click of a button. |
| What
if I have problems or need help using idrive ?
SMILE COMMUNICATIONS provide a comprehensive HELP DESK service. There
is no additional cost for this service, it is provided free of charge
with your subscription to idrive (with exception for all idrivestandard
plans). |
| How
efficient is the backup process ?
Your first Backup is a complete backup, in that all selected files are
backed up in full. All subsequent backups use the special idrive technology
to optimize the speed of the backup. Using FastBITtm
Technology, idrive is able to identify and backup only the parts
of a file that have changed since it was last backed up. The backup
process is extremely efficient and very fast. |
| What
are the connection costs both Local and Interstate ?
As you are using the Internet to connect to the Backup Network, the
connection costs are the same locally as they are interstate. The cost
is simply that of a local telephone call if using dial up, plus your
normal ISP (Internet Service Provider) charge. Using FastBITtm
Technology the size of an average 100MB backup set will be reduced by
over 95% and take under 5 minutes to transfer to the BACKUP SERVER.
|
| How
safe is it backing up over the Internet ?
To maintain absolute security and speed, idrive firstly compresses the
Backup Data to reduce the size of the transmission file, it then uses
special algorithms to encrypt the data before connecting to the Internet
for transmission to the BACKUP SERVER. The encrypted data being transmitted
and backed up is in a far “safer” format than the “raw” data on your
computer. |
| Where
is my backup data actually stored ?
Your encrypted Backup Data is stored on a RAID Storage System at a world
class data centre, Comindico, in Sydney. The building in which it is
located is a security building and conforms to the highest standard
in data warehousing. The RAID storage system is a redundant backup system
in itself, additionally the RAID system is also backed up to DAT Tape.
|
| Who
can access my Backup Data ?
Your data is protected in a number of different ways. Firstly the compressed
and encrypted format in which the data is stored makes it totally un-readable,
secondly to access and restore this data you must enter a unique ACCOUNT
CODE and PASSWORD. Each User has their own Account Code and can nominate
a Password of their choice. Without the correct User Account Code and
Password it is impossible to access or restore any data from your Backup
Account. |
| What
are the System requirements ?
idrive will run on Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000, XP & 2003. It requires
32MB RAM, 5MB of Hard Disk space plus some additional processing space.
To make the connection to the BACKUP SERVER you will also need a MODEM
or LAN/Cable connection and an ACTIVE Internet Account. |
| What
if I don’t have access to the Internet ?
You MUST have access to the INTERNET to use the Offsite Backup Service.
If you currently do not have an ISP (Internet Service Provider) please
contact SMILE COMMUNICATIONS to discuss how we can help. |
